Manchester United Football Club may be about to lose Sam Johnstone on a permanent deal, with Steve Bruce confirming his interest to sign the goalkeeper for Aston Villa.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper has been on United’s books for quite some time now, and he still has another year left on his Old Trafford deal.
However, he’s spending this season on loan with The Villains, and Bruce must be thoroughly impressed with the output he’s getting from Johnstone.
“We will do everything in our power to get him here permanently,” Bruce said, as per the Daily Express.
“He is going to find it difficult at United to break through because of what they have got so we are hopeful.”
It’s tough for Johnstone at United. He has David de Gea, Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira ahead of him, and unless something dramatic happens, he’s not going to move up that pecking order anytime soon.
With that said, he’s a talented goalkeeper. Whenever he’s played for the United first-team or youth sides, he looks calm, composed and in control of his back four. It would be a shame to see him leave, but you’d totally understand the decision if Jose Mourinho does choose to let him go.
United may as well get some sort of transfer fee for him now, rather than risking losing him for free when his contract expires.
