Chelsea want Willian, what does that mean for Mata and Rooney?

This transfer window is far from over yet! Chelsea have made a late bid for Willian, in an attempt to snatch the Brazilian’s signature from under the noses of their London Rivals Tottenham. What does this mean for Juan Mata though? In turn, what could that mean for Wayne Rooney?

Chelsea are looking set to accomplish something that usually only happens on Football Manager, they’ll have Juan Mata, Oscar, Eden Hazard, Victor Moses, Kevin De Bruyne, André Schürrle, Willian and finally Marco Van Ginkel all capable of playing in that no.10 role. Surely even the self proclaimed ‘special one’ cannot keep all those players happy.

Mourinho’s typical attacking midfielder/winger has pace as often he likes to play on the counter. Pace is something Juan Mata doesn’t have in bunches, and with recent reports that Chelsea would be happy to cash in on Mata surfacing, these reports could become a reality.

Juan Mata finished the season as Chelsea’s top scorer last season with twenty goals to his name, but would Mourinho really let him go? I guess we’ll have to see, but someone must go, as Chelsea have ten players capable of playing that role if you include the recently loaned out Marko Marin and Lucas Piazon.

When Chelsea made their intentions of wanting to sign Rooney clear a few weeks ago, various media sources also claimed Mata would be used as a makeweight in any such deal, and I’d imagine these rumours will suddenly reappear in tomorrows papers.

Chelsea still need a striker, and Mata could be that creative player we’ve been looking for. The Spaniard is younger, fitter and in much better form than Rooney is right now, but would Chelsea be stupid enough to sell such a talent? We’ll have to wait and see…
