Chris Smalling set for Man United stay with AS Roma in financial difficulty: report

Manchester United haven’t played in the best part of a month. I’d imagine it’ll be at least that timeframe again before we even consider seeing a ball being kicked at Old Trafford.

The impact that the global pandemic is having on our beautiful game cannot be understated. Nothing is more important than human life. However, the reality of the situation is that club’s will be lost due to a lack of income.

Although United are in a blessed situation, being one of the most wealthy clubs on the planet, it will still affect them. That’s according to The Sun, who write that star United man Chris Smalling is now set for a Reds stay…

That’s because AS Roma, where Smalling is out on loan, are in financial difficulty due to the virus.

Talks were ongoing, we covered a story from Il Tempo in which it was claimed that United had rejected three offers as they held out for a better fee.

However, Smalling is now expected to return to Old Trafford due to everything that’s happening. Whether or not he can force his way back into the side, or whether another club will come in and bid for the Englishman remains to be seen.

One thing is for sure, Smalling has proven he still has the ability, aged 30, to play at an extremely high level. He deserves credit for that.
