Angel Gomes’ future has been amongst the hot-topics of discussion here at Old Trafford Faithful HQ, with the Red Devils doing their utmost to persuade the youngster to stay.

However, talks had seemingly reached an impasse and now United have officially confirmed the teenage superstar has left the club on a free – while wishing the player the best of luck in a classy statement.

Personally, I thought that in the end, money would talk and Gomes would stay, before making an impression on the first-team next season. In the end, though, the Englishman has chosen to move on and now he’ll be looking for his next club.

“Manchester United can confirm that Angel Gomes has not taken up the offer of a new contract and has, therefore, left the club.”

“Everybody at Manchester United would like to wish Angel the very best of luck for the future and thank him for his efforts for the club.”

It’s a shame because he’s obviously a talented young man. Unfortunately, though, he hasn’t showcased that ability on limited first-team appearances handed his way. His last first-team outing came way back in January and looking back, the fact that we haven’t seen him since does speak volumes…

I do wonder if something more has gone on behind the scenes. After all, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been more than willing to give youth a chance at Old Trafford over the last few seasons. Maybe he just didn’t like Gomes as a player?

No doubt Gomes will think carefully about his next decision, but I hope for his stake he heads somewhere who’ll offer him regular playing time. The worst thing he could do now is move to another club where he’ll find it tough to break into the first-team.

All the best, Angel. Good luck.
