AS Roma’s Sporting Director Monchi has confirmed that Manchester United offered them the chance to sign Daley Blind in January, according to The Sun.
The former Ajax man has been in and out of the team since Jose Mourinho took charge, and you always felt like Blind has never been the self-proclaimed Special One’s style of footballer.
Honestly, I’m surprised that Blind has lasted this long at Old Trafford, but now it looks as though the writing is certainly on the wall for the 27-year-old.
“Blind was offered to us and he was evaluated from both a sporting and financial point of view.” Monchi is quoted as saying by The Sun.
“However, we decided to not go get him. Let’s not forget the financial stand point — otherwise, we’d sign every player in the world.”
I like Blind and I think he’s a supremely intelligent footballer who can do a job in multiple positions. Mourinho likes footballers who excel in one area of the field, though, and that is the exact opposite of what the Dutchman can offer the Old Trafford club.
It’s surprising that there weren’t any takers for his signature in January, but no doubt clubs will be keeping tabs on him with a view to making a summer bid. I fully expect the former Ajax man to be snapped up at some point as he still has plenty of years left in the tank and no doubt he’ll be a solid addition for someone.
