Confirmed: 21-year-old leaves Man United on loan days after penning new deal

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has left Old Trafford on a year-long loan move. He’s heading to Championship side Sheffield United.

The BBC confirmed the news earlier today, with the 21-year-old moving up a division from last season; he spent 2017/18 with Shrewsbury Town in League One.

It was just a couple of days ago that Henderson penned a new deal at the Theatre of Dreams, now he’ll be hoping for another twelve months with regular football under his belt.

Henderson’s an extremely talented goalkeeper. The best part is? He’s only getting better. His main issue is the fact that there are some brilliant shot-stoppers ahead of him in the pecking order.

At this point in time, he’s probably fourth choice behind David de Gea, Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira. Who knows, though, if he has another successful loan move, then Jose Mourinho’s thinking may well be altered.

Personally, I would have preferred to see Henderson go on pre-season tour with United before sealing his short-term switch. It would have been a good opportunity for him to show Mourinho what he can do up-close and personal. He could have waited until returning to England, then gone off on loan…
