Manchester United’s first home game of the season won’t be an easy one. Jose Mourinho’s men take on Southampton, who have more than caused misery for the Old Trafford crowd over the last couple of years; with two losses against the Saints under Van Gaal.
However, their task has been made somewhat easier by the absence of one of their key players. Claude Puel has met the media and confirmed that Ryan Bertrand will miss the game due to a minor injury concern.
“Ryan will be injured. He cannot make training sessions this week and for the moment it’s important to resolve his problem,” Puel said.
“It is not a big injury, but it’s not possible to see him on the pitch.”
This injury means that the more inexperienced figure in Matt Targett is likely to be given the nod at left-back, and that will present a real opportunity for Manchester United to attack down that flank
Antonio Valencia has been absolutely phenomenal recently, and if he continues that form, he is sure to find holes in that Southampton defence, and really give the Old Trafford crowd something to shout about.
Jose Mourinho will obviously be keen to kick things off with a win here, and really send out a message to the rest of the Premier League.
