The confirmed Man Utd XI vs Newcastle United is now in, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer certainly springing a few surprises…
Well, this one is certainly going to be interesting. Manchester United are absolutely desperate for a victory, in fact, it may well save Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job.
However, the team named is full of surprises. First and foremost, new signing Alex Telles remains on the bench, where he’s joined by a certain Paul Pogba…
There’s no place for Mason Greenwood in the squad which is a shock. We’ll presume he’s injured, while Anthony Martial misses out through suspension.
Anyway, let’s turn our attention to the players who are actually starting this one. Although the team is somewhat underwhelming, you’d hope that we have more than enough quality to get the job done.
Confirmed Man Utd XI vs Newcastle United in full:
David de Gea plays, which was somewhat obvious despite the fact that Dean Henderson continues to impress.
Luke Shaw keeps his place in the side at left-back, though Solskjaer must’ve resisted the temptation to throw Telles straight into the mix. Aaron Wan-Bissaka makes his 50th Red Devils appearance. Harry Maguire starts despite concerns about how he is mentally, coupled with being an injury doubt. Victor Lindelof completes the back four.
Scott McTominay will start at the base of a Red Devils midfield trio which also contains Fred in Pogba’s absence. Bruno Fernandes is involved despite the fact his international teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, tested positive for Coronavirus earlier this week.
Marcus Rashford leads the line in a position that has become somewhat unfamiliar to him over the last eighteen months or so. On the right-hand side, Juan Mata gets the nod, replacing the presumably injured Greenwood. Daniel James completes the XI.
This isn’t a team that excites, though I’d like to think we have more than enough quality to get the job done. COME ON LADS!
