Bastian Schweinsteiger set to leave Manchester United for the MLS

One of my favourite moments with Manchester United under the watchful eye of Louis van Gaal was when the Iron Tulip made the move to bring in Bastian Schweinsteiger. The 32-year-old German has always been one of my idols in the footballing world – and it was a brilliant day when he wore our red shirt.

However, sadly, it hasn’t really worked out for him at all at Old Trafford, and today the club have confirmed that Schweinsteiger will join MLS side Chicago Fire, subject to a medical and visa.

This season just hasn’t been a memorable one for him, and the former Bayern Munich man has only played four times – three of which were substitute appearances.

It’s a move that makes a whole lot of sense for the good of his career, despite the fact that he clearly still has it in his locker to compete at a good level. I would have loved to have seen him get a real opportunity to prove his worth under the self-proclaimed Special One, but unfortunately, that was never going to happen.

Good luck out in America, Basti. Thanks for everything.
