Manchester United Football Club have today confirmed that Michael Carrick has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract, keeping him at the Theatre of Dreams until next summer.
The future of the veteran midfielder was up in the air for quite some time before both parties have agreed upon a contract extension, and it is a move that makes perfect sense in my opinion.
It’s amazing that at 35, Carrick can still have such a positive impact on the game as a whole. Whenever he plays, he brings a calmness to the field that just makes everyone else around him play so much better; and that is a testament to just how good he has been for our great football club.
To have him play for the Red Devils for at least another twelve months is great. He’ll be that experienced old head that the younger players will thrive and learn from and having his winning mentality around the squad can only be a good thing.
Alright, he’ll probably see a reduction in minutes and starts but he is just the perfect player who can slot right into the team seamlessly when the situation arises.
Congratulations on your new deal, Michael!
