Ah, here we are again. Everyone is on a level playing field. Everyone will be vying for glory. Manchester United will be feeling confident after an excellent pre-season, though a home game against Chelsea is a pretty tricky way to start.
Pre-match, all the talk has been about what formation will United play, or whether youngsters will be included. Well, the Manchester Evening News have spotted a 23-strong squad turning up at the Lowry Hotel ahead of the huge Premier League clash.
The good news? Regular faces like David de Gea, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford were all spotted. As was Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and Axel Tuanzebe.
There’s a real opening there, particularly in midfield and attack, for these young lads to stake their claim and show the world what they can do.
It’s also intriguing to see what new signings will be given the opportunity to start. You’d think Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a certainty to play. Harry Maguire, too, though he hasn’t played a minute of football in United colours as of yet. It’s a toss-up between Daniel James and Greenwood for that final attacking spot. Right now I’d probably give the edge to the Englishman but it’s close…
Confirmed United squad members: De Gea, Romero, Grant, Wan-Bissaka, Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Jones, Tuanzebe, Smalling, Young, Shaw, Pogba, Pereira, Lingard, Mata, James, Greenwood, Gomes, Chong, Martial, Rashford.
Scott McTominay has since arrived, while Fred and Nemanja Matic are also expected to be available.
