Confirmed Starting XI: Manchester United vs Reading FC – Rooney starts

Manchester United kick off their FA Cup campaign shortly, as Jose Mourinho plays host to Jaap Stam’s Reading FC side in the third round of the competition. Let’s not forget that the Red Devils will be looking to defend the title they won in dramatic fashion last May.

The manager has stood true to his word for this one, and both Wayne Rooney and Sergio Romero have been named in the starting eleven. Jose has decided to make some more changes too, which is obviously expected, given our next game up is Hull City in the cup semi, closely followed by Liverpool at Old Trafford next weekend.

Confirmed XI

Romero, Young, Smalling, Rojo, Blind; Carrick, Fellaini, Mata, Rooney, Martial, Rashford

Subs: J. Pereira, Fosu-Mensah, Jones, Schweinsteiger, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Ibrahimovic

We simply have to win this one, and if things aren’t going our way, Mourinho has the firepower on the bench to turn the match in our favour. I personally expect safe progression into the fourth round of the FA Cup. Who knows, we could well go all the way again this year!
