Confirmed Starting XI: Manchester United vs Southampton – Lingard starts

Manchester United’s team news for their big game is in. Jose Mourinho has gone supremely strong for the EFL Cup final against Southampton, and you wouldn’t expect anything less. This is a real chance to get our first piece of silverware under the new coach, and it’d really boost morale and belief.

The club confirmed the news on their social media account earlier on, and I bet the XI guys who’ll take to the field will be absolutely buzzing for the big occasion.

In goal, David de Gea returns after sitting the last few matches out. Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo make up an extremely strong back four.

Jose has opted for a midfield two here, with the regular starters of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba once again getting the nod. They should have more than enough to win that key battle in a key part of the field.

Our front four has bags of pace and intelligence. Jesse Lingard comes into the team in the absence of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Anthony Martial begins on the other flank. Juan Mata starts as the #10, and obviously, Zlatan Ibrahimovic leads the line.

Starting XI:

De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Rojo; Herrera, Pogba; Lingard, Mata, Martial; Ibrahimovic.

Subs: Romero, Blind, Young, Carrick, Fellaini, Rooney, Rashford.
