Manchester United head to Northampton Town this evening, as Jose Mourinho gets our EFL Cup tournament underway. The boys come into this one on the back of some awful results and performances, so as you’d expect, the manager has decided to switch things up in terms of the starting XI.
There is first starts of the season for Sergio Romero, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Memphis Depay, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young, as the gaffer is seemingly intent on resting his key players for the tough clash against Leicester on Saturday afternoon.
Tonight provides a chance for the players listed above to prove their worth to earn starts in the so-called bigger games, and hopefully we see a good display.
There is one surprise, though. Wayne Rooney starts, so that could be an indicator that Jose isn’t planning on starting him come the weekend.
Romero; Fosu-Mensah, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Schneiderlin, Carrick; Memphis, Herrera, Young; Rooney
Subs: Johnstone, Darmian, Fellaini, Lingard, Mata, Rashford, Ibrahimović
