After an official announcement from the Red Devils earlier this morning, it looks as though Romelu Lukaku’s Manchester United medical will also happen today. That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who adds that it will take place in LA; where the 24-year-old is currently on holiday.
The reports adds that Chelsea were leading the race to land Everton’s star striker, but Edward Woodward came in and swooped, leaving the Stamford Bridge club stunned.
Lukaku will undergo all medical today, before meeting his new teammates in LA when they fly out tomorrow. By which point, he should be officially confirmed as Manchester United’s second summer signing in time to train with the rest of the squad for the first time on Monday.
You have to say that the club have played a blinder here. It looked for all the world like Alvaro Morata was going to be the man to lead the line at the club next term, but behind the scenes, the United officials were always working on a deal to bring in Lukaku.
I must admit, I’m absolutely delighted. This is a man who’ll come in and score goals for fun which was undoubtedly our main concern with the team last season.
Our manager is the best at identifying problems within a squad and then duly fixing them. I have complete faith in his transfers, and this one certainly excites me.
