Manchester United have had several players who have turned into club legends whilst wearing the number seven shirt, and the latest player to get given that honour is Memphis Depay. The young winger called out for that particular jersey when coming to the club, and he got his wish.
Since joining, he hasn’t really shown off his full ability to this point, and David Beckham has some wise words for the young man.
“When you get given the No 7 shirt it doesn’t matter who has worn it in the past or what that player has achieved in the past.” Beckham began. “At the end of the day it is a special shirt to wear but I don’t think personally that it comes with any pressure.”
“The No 7 shirt is a special shirt for Man Utd. It always has been and it always will be.”
There are many iconic numbers at Manchester United Football Club, but it always seems as though the number seven always takes on that extra bit of pressure.
Memphis Depay certainly has big shoes to fill in that regard, but its interesting to see that Beckham felt the shirt number didn’t put any additional pressure on him personally.
