It feels like for the last six months, David de Gea has been playing with the weight of uncertainty.
The Spaniard has been winding his contract down, with the shot-stopper now well into the final twelve months of his current deal.
Well, after what feels like prolonged negotiations, the superstar 28-year-old is now close to signing a new £290,000-a-week contract at United. That’s according to the usually reliable Guardian.
If this deal does go through, we need to seriously start giving De Gea credit for his loyalty to Manchester United.
The easy option would have been to leave, probably head back home to Spain and win trophies galore. Instead, De Gea has chosen to stick it out here at Old Trafford – with the love from the fans probably being the main contributing factor behind that.
For now, I’m holding my breath. This isn’t the first time over the last few months that we’ve heard De Gea is close to signing a new deal. Forgive me for waiting until this one is official before jumping around my room with excitement!
It would be nice if this deal could be confirmed before United take to the field against Leicester City this weekend, though I doubt that’ll happen…
