David de Gea refused to play for Manchester United’s game tonight

Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow, as according to Louis van Gaal, David de Gea refused to play for the club in the game against Aston Villa, after the goalkeeping coach Franks Hoek asked him if he was ready to play.

Van Gaal said: ‘Frans Hoek … he had a meeting with David de Gea and he asked him: ‘Do you want to play?’” De Gea said: ‘No”.

So it seems like Manchester United were willing to return David de Gea to the starting line-up but he has refused to do so. Whether thats because his head isn’t ready, or that he actually does want to force a move to Real Madrid this summer remains to be seen, but either way it is disappointing.

Sergio Romero is a solid backup, but thats all he is. I wouldn’t trust him to be the permanent #1 goalkeeper at Manchester United, but he can do a job playing here and there.
