This summer, Manchester United need to hit the reset button. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a huge rebuilding job on his hands, although the Baby Faced Assassin does have some stellar pieces he can build around.
Despite recent mistakes I still think David de Gea is amongst the best goalkeepers on the planet. You simply cannot forget the fact that he’s saved our bacon time-and-time again over the last half-decade or so. Football fans are fickle in that regard.
A case can be made to suggest that De Gea should have done better for Gylfi Sigurdsson’s goal at Goodison Park yesterday. He looked distraught afterwards. Last night, the Spaniard took to social media to apologise to the Old Trafford Faithful, as he was captain on the day and he felt responsible.
I think yesterday has the potential to be a turning point. These players know that they’re letting the fans and the club down. The apology is all well and good but now it’s time to forget about that and put in the displays that we all know they’re capable of.
United fans have always been a pretty forgiving fanbase. They’re not usually ones to turn on players but if games like yesterday continue then that could happen before the season’s end.
We all now know that the manager is not the problem. There’s only so much he can do and if the team just don’t want to work hard and put in the effort, then their days at this club could certainly be numbered…
