Albeit a World Cup Year is usually a difficult time to get your transfer business done, David Moyes must make some much-needed changes to an ageing Manchester United squad. The Daily Star claim that the Scot could axe at least seven players from the current squad, freeing up some much-needed wage space.
The defensive trio of Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand all look set to leave on free transfers, freeing up over £300,000 a week in wages. Ryan Giggs could join that list too, as he looks to concentrate on his coaching career at the ripe age of 40.
Other potential options leaving through the exit door include Shinji Kagawa – It hasn’t quite worked out for him at Old Trafford despite his superb talents, and he could be used in some form of deal that could see Marco Reus or Ilkay Gundogan come to Old Trafford.
Next up on the list is Alex Buttner, who has never been good enough for United. Although if Patrice Evra does leave, then that’d leave Buttner as the only left-back in the squad so I can see him getting another season.
Third is Javier Hernandez. Despite his goalscoring prowess in the box he hasn’t been getting the minutes he desires. We could get a decent fee for him now whilst he is still in contract, and a move would be best for all parties.
The final candidate is Nani. Reports suggest that United only tied him down to a new deal so they could get a fee for him when they do decide to sell, which is likely to be this summer.
