Manchester United Football Club have been pretty good when it comes to selecting their goalkeepers over the last few years. We all know about David de Gea and Sergio Romero’s ability, while in Dea Henderson, the Red Devils have a supremely gifted up-and-comer.
The fans have made their feelings known – they want Henderson to be given his opportunity next season. After all, that would be the logical decision.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the talented 22-year-old has no intention of returning to Man United next season – unless he’s made first-choice.
Apparently, the English shot-stopper doesn’t want to return and compete for the starting job, though he’ll only remain at the club if he’s appointed the Red Devils’ number one goalkeeper…
Now these are some hefty demands, but you can completely understand his decision. Henderson is tearing it up with Sheffield United at the moment, and it’s all down to the fact that he has been given regular minutes, season-in-season-out, for the last three-and-a-half years.
The good news is that Henderson would be open to spending a fourth term away from the club on loan, though for me, I’d give him his chance on pre-season tour before making a final decision.
This guy is class. He’s obviously the future, so why not continue the complete overhaul with a new goalkeeper? Obviously, it’d mean waving goodbye to either De Gea or Romero, but this isn’t a chance that comes around every season. United have to strike while the iron is hot.
