Well here we go, it’s time for Dean Henderson to finally make his Manchester United debut.
For us here at Old Trafford Faithful, it has been a long-time coming. We’ve been banging the Dean Henderson drum pretty hard over the last six months or so. Now, he gets his big opportunity to impress.
Credit goes to the Manchester Evening News for the scoop, who confirm that United starlet Henderson is set for his Reds debut tonight. Apparently, the player has been informed he’ll start vs Luton Town during the Carabao Cup tie.
Understandably, Henderson and his family are said to be ‘buzzing’ about the shot-stopper making his first start. His hard work is finally paying off.
After all, this is someone who has been at the club for almost ten years. After spending three seasons out on loan, Henderson’s time is now.
What does a Dean Henderson debut mean for David de Gea?
It piles the pressure on the Spaniard, which is only a good thing. Competition for places is healthy, with Henderson a serious challenger for that number one jersey.
We’re talking about a young man who has improved year-on-year over the last half-decade. Henderson is consistently getting better while De Gea is going the other way.
For De Gea, it’s about whether this will spur him on to play better or whether he’ll wilt under the pressure. I honestly don’t know which way it’ll go.
What I am sure of, is it’s only a matter of time before Henderson is the regular starter at United. I honestly don’t think he’ll be waiting too long, particularly if he impresses in the cup games.
I, for one, cannot wait to see how Henderson gets on tonight. I’m expecting it’ll be a pretty quiet game for him, though I wouldn’t mind seeing how he copes with a few shots at his goal.
