Dean Henderson is in line to make his Champions League debut for Manchester United this evening.
According to the Manchester Evening News, it’s claimed that Henderson expects to play vs Istanbul Basaksehir tonight. The 23-year-old is set to make his European debut in the Turkish capital.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer strongly hinted at starting the Englishman during his pre-match press conference yesterday, as United look to make it three wins from three in European’s premier competition.
In season’s gone by, this match would’ve been ideal for Sergio Romero. Now that Henderson is United’s back-up, it makes sense to give him his big opportunity.
Henderson has made two Red Devils starts this term, both coming in the Carabao Cup. He’d keep two clean sheets and make excellent saves in both, particularly the Brighton game. Now, it looks as though he’s ready to take that next step.
With that said, Istanbul cannot be understated. They’re an excellent team who deserve their place in the Champions League. This will be a good test for Henderson and the rest of the United starting XI that’ll be named by the manager.
This is what Manchester United is all about
Henderson is United through and through. He’s worked his way through the ranks, gone out on several loans and never stopped believing in his ability. His time is now and you absolutely love to see his patience being rewarded.
I’ve been banging the Henderson drum for a fair while now. I actually think he should be our first-choice goalkeeper, though credit where it’s due, David de Gea has started this campaign in fine form.
For now, it’s about Henderson enjoying his moment. I hope he has an excellent game this evening, during a convincing United victory. It’s the least he deserves.
