Manchester United Football Club have seen their bid for Eric Dier rejected, according to The Independent. The report says that the offer was just under £25million, with Spurs wanting at least double that to even be tempted into selling one of their key players.
Furthermore, The Independent adds that the Red Devils hierarchy are confident a deal can be done because the player apparently has his heart set on a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
Jose Mourinho has reportedly told Edward Woodward to sign one of either Nemanja Matic or Dier this summer, but relations between United and Chelsea have seemingly soured – after Woodward hijacked Conte’s move for Romelu Lukaku.
In my opinion, it seems clear that the manager wants to bring in a player who is proven in the Premier League. That experience in England can be absolutely vital, and bringing in a player who can help out the back four simply has to be one of our priorities.
Personally, I’d prefer Matic because he’s a winner, with a couple of Premier League titles already under his belt during a relatively short stay on the British Isles thus far.
Honestly, I’d find a move for Dier pretty underwhelming. He’s a decent player, but not much more than that. If Spurs are after in excess of £50million to let him leave, then I’d be turning my attentions elsewhere.
