Di Marzio: Man United cool interest in signing classy attacker this summer

Manchester United’s interest in signing Ivan Perisic this summer has cooled, according to the usually reliable Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio. He adds that the Croatia star could now stay with Inter Milan beyond the current transfer window.

Jose Mourinho’s interest in signing the classy winger has been well documented, and it’s a saga that has dragged on for quite some time. However, it looks as though the Red Devils have admitted defeat.

At times during the pre-season tour, the need for a new winger has been evident. Although Mourinho has talent aplenty at his disposal, we do not have that out-and-out winger who’ll hug the touchline and whip devastating balls into the box. Perisic would have brought that to the table.

The 28-year-old has been in and around the European game for a while now and he’d also add some experience to the first-team squad. On top of that, he’s a typical Mourinho-type player who’ll work hard on both sides of the ball.

Personally, I’m pretty gutted that this move doesn’t look like happening, and I hope that Edward Woodward is now working on adding another attacker to the squad before the transfer window slams shut at the start of September.
