Manchester United clearly aren’t messing around this summer, with Jose Mourinho making right-back Diogo Dalot his second signing in two days.
The Red Devils are undoubtedly doing all they can to close the gap on Manchester City at the top of the table, with the self-proclaimed Special One sanctioning a move for his countryman.
Dalot, 19, isn’t a household name in the footballing world, having only played six first-team games during his time at Porto.
During his first time speaking to the club, the youngster has revealed what his favourite position is.
“Yeah, I prefer to play at right-back, but if I need to play in any position, I will play, no problem.” Dalot said in his first official interview with Manchester United.
It certainly seems as though Antonio Valencia has some competition, then. The man from Ecuador probably needs it, too, as he’s rarely had to fight off anyone for the right-back slot. Perhaps it’ll spur the veteran on to play even better in 2018/19.
Not only will Valencia have to up his game, but Ashley Young and Luke Shaw will, too. Dalot’s only games at the top-level has come in the left-back position as that’s where he filled in for the injured Alex Telles. This versatility will no doubt help him when it comes to acquiring minutes on the field.
Now it’s a case of waiting. We’re all excited to see our new man in action, and it’s likely we’ll get the first glimpse of Dalot during the pre-season tour of the United States at the end of July…
