Manchester United gave a debut to young Diogo Dalot yesterday. It’s fair to say the man from Portugal greatly impressed the Old Trafford faithful.
For a teenager, it was a real mature outing. Dalot was tough in the tackle, positionally solid and good going forward; largely due to his wicked crossing ability.
It was nice to see a natural right-back play in that position for a change. That’s not a knock on Antonio Valencia or Ashley Young, either. They’ve done great, but we’re already seeing the benefits from Dalot.
Following the game, the 19-year-old was super upbeat in his post-match press conference. He was asked a question about his captain, Paul Pogba. The response was an extremely positive one, no doubt the Frenchman will be pleased…
“He’s one of the greatest players in the world, that’s for sure.” Dalot told reporters, including the Daily Star.
“He speaks on the pitch, he likes to play with us, we like to play with him, and we are so happy to have him in the team.”
The first thing to note is that Dalot spoke brilliantly for a man in a new country after his first game. He deserves heaps of praise for that.
To come out and speak so highly of Pogba is only a positive. The pair seemed to have a nice connection on the field, hopefully, it’s a relationship that will continue to grow going forward.
Dalot has now given the manager something to think about. I genuinely wouldn’t bet against him starting against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend; that’s just how good he was.
