Manchester United Football Club are having a rather quiet mid-season transfer window in terms of players coming into the club. However, the paperwork for outgoing players will certainly be piling up, and the Red Devils have today confirmed another move away for a starlet.
The Old Trafford side have announced that Joe Riley has completed a loan move to Sheffield United, and the 20-year-old will remain in Yorkshire for the remainder of the season.
Riley is obviously highly regarded at United, and Louis van Gaal even handed him a couple of first-team appearances last campaign. However, he has recently been injured and only just returned against Liverpool in an U23 fixture on Monday night.
His manager whilst on loan will be Chris Wilder, who also clearly has high hopes for the talent, and sees his versatility as a real selling point:
“Joe is a young player who is comfortable playing on both the right or left and that versatility will be important to us,” Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told the club’s official website.
“We are delighted to have him with us for the remainder of the season and happy that Manchester United have allowed him to further his development here.”
Manchester United then wished the young man good luck on social media:

In my opinion, this next five months or so will be absolutely huge for Joe. As we’ve mentioned, he has plenty of talent, but in my opinion, Jose Mourinho would probably prefer to bring someone more senior in for that left-back slot instead. If he can impress during his time with The Blades, then the self-proclaimed Special One’s mind may be swayed – which I firmly hope is the case.
