Manchester United’s goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira has left Old Trafford on a one-month loan. The Portugal U21 international will be staying in the North-West however, as he’ll move to League One side Rochdale.
With David de Gea, Sam Johnstone, Sergio Romero and Victor Valdes all ahead of him, it makes sense to loan out the young man to further his career.
“He’s an exciting goalkeeper. His distribution is flamboyant and his ability in goal is absolutely magnificent,” Rochdale manager Keith Hill said.
This could certainly be a good move for Joel Pereira. He needs to play competitive football on a regular basis if he is to improve his game, and he could well be in line for his first start next weekend, as Rochdale take on local rivals Bury.
Hopefully he can impress there and get that one-month loan deal extended to a season-long transfer allowing him to focus solely on his football.
