Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have taken the decision to rest four key players for the Red Devils’ clash against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, as per The Independent.
David de Gea, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly and Nemanja Matic were all granted two days off, and they’ll sit out the opening game of our defence of the trophy.
The Spaniard #1 hasn’t missed a minute of action so far this season, and this couple of days off will give him the opportunity to recharge the batteries and be ready to take on Southampton at the weekend. It’s no issue because Sergio Romero is a cracking back-up goalkeeper to have.
Antonio Valencia was given the day off against FC Basel last week and Ashley Young came into the team in his absence. After the wonder-strike he scored at the weekend, I’m fine with him sitting this one out.
Eric Bailly is another player who is in brilliant form, but when you have both Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof waiting in the wings, it makes sense to utilise the squad to its full capacity.
Nemanja Matic is another who hasn’t missed a minute of action since he was signed. This is the perfect opportunity to give him some time off.
