Early Squad news: Man United’s 23-man training squad ahead of Celta Vigo clash

Manchester United’s biggest game of the season is fast approaching, with Jose Mourinho getting his players ready for the first of a double-header against Celta Vigo. With a place in the Europa League final at stake, these high-pressure situations are where our players thrive.

It’s absolutely crucial that we come away from Spain with a positive result, ensuring us the best possible chance at making it into the showpiece in Stockholm at the end of the month.

Ahead of that game, the Manchester Evening News have revealed the 23-man squad who has been in training ahead of the match. Usually, this has been a pretty good indicator as to what the final matchday squad has looked like.

Hopefully, that’ll be the case here as we’re pleasantly surprised by the likes of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones who are all back in training. We were looking extremely short in terms of defensive options, with the likes of the aforementioned trio all being injured. Thankfully, they are back and ready to go.

It’s also wonderful to see youngsters like Joel Pereira, Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe in and around the squad. Even if they travel and don’t get on the field, it’ll be a good learning curve for those guys going forward.

Training squad in full as per the Manchester Evening News:

David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Scott McTominay, Matty Willock, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial.
