Early team news: Jose Mourinho confirms two starters for Man United’s game against Basel

Unfortunately for us fans, Manchester United football is in the middle of a two-week hiatus due to the dreaded international break. Jose Mourinho’s head into the first of these sitting atop of the tree; amassing nine points out of a possible nine thus far.

As soon as domestic football resumes, the games will start coming thick and fast due to our participation in the Champions League and the League Cup. Ahead of our opener in continental football, Mourinho has already confirmed two starters.

We take on FC Basel on September 12th and the self-proclaimed Special One has already gone on record stating that both Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling will start.

“Smalling is in very good condition and Victor is improving every day,” the manager told Sky Sports, as per The Peoples Person.

“Against Basel, Jones and Eric are both suspended so we will play Victor and Smalling and there will be no problem at all.

“The squad is good and the mentality of the players is very good.”

The pairing of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones has been absolutely sublime in the league so far and whilst it is a shame to break that up, we’ll get to see Lindelof start in a competitive fixture at Old Trafford for the first time.

Since signing, the 22-year-old hasn’t really made a positive start to life at the Theatre of Dreams, but this will present him with the perfect opportunity to send a message out to the manager.

It’ll also be good for Smalling to get some game time. Personally, I thought he may have been sold this summer, but it’s good to see him working hard to try and get himself back involved.
