Manchester United’s season starts with the eagerly anticipated UEFA Super Cup clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, in a game that seems the perfect way to kick off the 2017/18 campaign. Ahead of the match, the official website has given us some early team news.
They say that both Eric Bailly and Phil Jones will be unavailable for the clash due to UEFA suspensions they’ve been given; meaning that we’ll likely see the pairing of Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling.
On top of that, we have three players out injured, all of whom are long-term absentees. Ashley Young, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo will sit this one out, and it’ll probably be quite a while before we see these guys in action once again.
The other big question on everybody’s lips is whether Cristiano Ronaldo will play against his former side, and the Portuguese starlet has been named in Madrid’s squad, despite not playing a minute of pre-season action thus far.
Despite the squad looking rather thin on the ground in some areas, our starting line-up and squad still looks strong, and the game itself is going to be an intriguing encounter. It is always great to test yourself against the very best, and Champions League winners Real Madrid are probably the best side in the world right now.
