The 3-1 loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final hurt. Though an Eric Bailly head injury overshadowed everything. The concern was real as he left the field of play in a neck brace. No doubt that left his Red Devils teammates distracted. Now, it’s likely to rule him out of Manchester United’s all-important Premier League clash against West Ham…
The story comes from the Daily Mail, who claim that Bailly has now returned to Manchester after spending Sunday night in a London hotel while being treated for a concussion.
Yesterday afternoon, Bailly actually took to Twitter to send a message for the fans. He looked upbeat, while looking forward to the game against West Ham.
However, he probably won’t feature in the all-important clash at Old Trafford. The Daily Mail state that the 26-year-old United man is ‘unlikely’ to play due to the safety protocols governing concussion.
Bailly was first involved in a clash of heads with Chelsea’s Kourt Zouma. Then, five minutes later, Harry Maguire would inflict more damage on the Ivorian’s head. That’d be the end of his afternoon and at the time, it certainly didn’t look good…
The centre-half walked off the field, before collapsing at the side of the pitch. He was then carried away on a stretcher before being taken to hospital.
Will we see Bailly again this season?
Simply put, concussions aren’t to be taken lightly. If there’s any doubt that Bailly isn’t right, I’d make him sit out the rest of the season.
It’s just a shame because he was probably United’s best player at the time he was substituted, and everything went pear-shaped from that point onward…
His injury record has been pretty horrific after a stellar debut season back in 2017/18. I just hope that he can get a good stretch of games under his belt and get back to his brilliant best.
In our opinion, we may see him against LASK in the Europa League. If he plays well in that one, he’s got every chance at displacing Victor Lindelof.
