Manchester United centre-back Eric Bailly only started two out of the Red Devils’ last ten fixtures, which certainly became cause for concern for fans.
Now, though, the Manchester Evening News have confirmed where his future lies… They reckon that the former Villareal defender will remain at Old Trafford, but he’s unwilling to tolerate a role on the periphery of things next campaign.
Personally, I don’t feel that Bailly has anything to worry about. He was truly outstanding during his debut season at Manchester United, but his second campaign was just torrid. When he played, he was pretty good, it’s just that injuries massively hampered his season and it’s always difficult to come back from that.
I still think that Jose Mourinho fully trusts Bailly and with a full pre-season under his belt, I’ve no doubts that he’ll be back at the heart of the defence week-in-week-out.
Attentions then have to turn towards finding him a partner. Chris Smalling is decent, but both Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones are struggling massively. If we could sign a world-class, proven centre-back to slot in alongside him, then I’ll feel much more comfortable; particularly going into games against the top six. Toby Alderweireld, anyone?
