Manchester United Football Club have improved during their two-year stint under Jose Mourinho. However, the gaffer is being targeted by Real Madrid.
That’s according to Spanish media outlet Diario Madridista, who claim that Los Blancos have asked about Mourinho’s contractual situation at Old Trafford.
Following Zinedine Zidane’s departure, Florentino Perez will obviously be on the lookout for a new manager. The Santiago Bernabeu is a place where only big names succeed. Mourinho is as big as they come.
However, things didn’t end all that well the last time Perez and Mourinho worked together, and I’d be surprised if he turned his back on United at this point in time.
The 55-year-old only recently penned an extension to his Red Devils contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2021. With that in mind, the ball is in United’s court.
I just don’t think Mourinho is the sort of manager who’ll leave in the middle of a job. United are heading in the right direction. He’ll know that, while remaining eager as he wonders just how far he can take the Old Trafford club. He’s made an excellent start to the summer in terms of signings. If that continues, we could well be challenging for the title next season.
