Fee for the Memphis Depay bid that was rejected by Manchester United revealed by Sky Sources

Manchester United Football Club were subject to a bid from Lyon for Memphis Depay according to Sky Sports News’ transfer live blog yesterday, but at the time there was no transfer fee mentioned. Now that has been cleared up by their ever reliable sources.

Sky Sports News now say that the figure turned down by Manchester United and Jose Mourinho was a mere £13million. The report adds that the manager has made it clear he wants to see the talented 22-year-old leave on a permanent deal rather than a loan one, and it seems the French club have a similar idea…

However, Mourinho’s valuation of the Dutchman is yet to be met, and considering United paid £25million for Depay just over eighteen months ago is probably why the club want to get more than £13million for him.

At the end of the day, the buying club are investing in talent, and that is something that Memphis obviously has plenty of. Sadly, it just didn’t quite work out for him here, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he has absolute bags of potential.

It will be a shame to see him go, but honestly, he isn’t worth keeping based on his performances for Manchester United since he got here. I’ve no doubts that he will be a success eventually, though, he has too much ability to just flop.
