Manchester United have made some big-money transfers over the summer period, two of whom starred heavily during the Red Devils’ opening Premier League game against West Ham United. However, in my opinion, they are still one or two short of a title charge.
Of course, with Jose Mourinho at the helm then anything is possible. This is a manager who has been there and done it, but I would have liked to see one more marquee signing.
That’s clearly a sentiment echoed by United legend Rio Ferdinand. He reckons that his former employers should have made the move for FC Barcelona man Neymar, before PSG swooped and brought him in.
“Neymar’s up for £196m… Man United are one of the richest clubs in the world,” he told his Youtube channel, as per the Manchester Evening News.
“I would have loved to have seen him go to Manchester United.”
“Neymar in a red Man United shirt? Number 7, woah, or number 11.”
“Dirty, it would have been dirty but it wasn’t to be.”
The thought of someone like Neymar starting as our left-winger alongside Romelu Lukaku, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba is a mouthwatering one; particularly donning the famous #7.
As Ferdinand says, it would have been ‘dirty’, but I think that as soon as PSG cemented their interest, there was only one place that the 25-year-old was going to end up. It is a shame, but you win some and you lose some.
The good news is that there is still time in this transfer window for the manager to make another addition. Will we bring someone in? Who knows, but I wouldn’t be surprised, particularly if the right player comes along.
