Manchester United have had a solid season under Louis van Gaal, but next time around a bigger leap has to be made, and United will have to turn into a club that once again challenges for the prestigious Premier League title.
One area the club need to strengthen is the holding midfielder spot, as Louis van Gaal identified that as a problem area a month or so ago.
Lets have a look at a few potential midfield signings:
The most obvious choice would be Gundogan. The German has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and he’d drastically improve the United squad in terms of defensive options.
Pogba would take a colossal amount of money to lure back to Old Trafford. He’s young, clearly talented and still learning the game, but also one of the best central midfielders in the game at the moment. Some fans wouldn’t want him back however.
Was involved in the saga of the summer last term, and a move that didn’t end up happening due to his injury concerns. He’s back playing again now though, and maybe Louis van Gaal could be tempted into signing him after getting a good look at United’s current crop of midfielders this season.
Nigel de Jong
Van Gaal knows De Jong inside out due to their relationship at international level. He’s experienced, has played in the Premier League before and knows exactly what he is doing in terms of defensive positioning.
Has expressed his desire to leave Madrid this summer, and would improve most sides in world football. Was a part of the World Cup winning squad a year ago, and would definitely do a superb job for Manchester United. Could also be used as a makeweight in the De Gea deal.
