Forgotten Man United man admits he misses homeland

Manchester United chose not to sign a new centre-half over the summer, with Jose Mourinho not being backed by management in such a key transfer window.

The season has been trending in a downward direction, largely due to the fact that we’ve not been able to keep a clean sheet for love nor money; despite constant tinkering with the back four.

One man who has seen more game-time recently is Matteo Darmian. The Italian has largely been on the periphery of things this term, but injuries have given him a way back into the team, and for the most part, he has done okay.

Don’t forget that he was almost out of the exit door himself over the summer, with Juventus and other top Serie A clubs showing an interest. Now, it looks like Darmian has hinted at a potential move back, as he has admitted that he really is beginning to mis life in his homeland.

“I must say, I really do miss Serie A and Italy now. Darmian told reporters, including Sky Sports News.

“I know that I am at one of the best clubs in the world and I am proud to be at Manchester United, but I do miss Italy. I love my country.”

I can’t blame him for wanting out. He has hardly been a regular at Old Trafford since his arrival, but credit where it’s due, he has never once kicked up a fuss. Instead, he has kept working hard while fighting for the badge and the cause.

When January rolls around, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him shipped out, particularly with he emergence of Diogo Dalot over the last few weeks. It certainly makes sense to give the minutes to the young buck rather than someone who’s future probably lies elsewhere.
