I’m going to start this one with a warning; you’ve all heard this before… Cristiano Ronaldo is apparently considering a sensational return to Manchester United.
That’s what Diario Gol, translated by The Express are saying. Apparently, Real Madrid are reluctant to hand the 33-year-old a new bumper deal, with the Portugal international set to test the waters elsewhere.
We lost Ronaldo back in 2009 after a glittering six years at Old Trafford. His time here was immensely trophy-laden, including scooping a stunning Premier League and Champions League double back in 2008/09.
Personally, though, the thought of having him back is far more appealing than the reality. Under Jose Mourinho, he’ll be shackled, which would just be absolutely criminal. Then you have to factor in his age. Ronaldo is no spring chicken these days; although he doesn’t really seem to be showing that at this point in time.
He’d undoubtedly command huge wages alongside a pretty hefty transfer fee for a man of his age, and let’s say Ronaldo returns and picks up a serious injury within his first season? That could be his top-level career over, ala Zlatan Ibrahimovic just twelve months ago.
I just don’t see this one happening. I expect Ronaldo to remain a Madrid player for the foreseeable future, before taking his talents to the MLS for a year or two.
