Manchester United fans have been full of praise for Chris Smalling this season, with the England international looking in outstanding from from the first minute this term. However one former United player in Michael Owen is yet to be convinced by the 26-year old centre-half.
Owen says that even he could play centre-back in Louis van Gaal’s defence first system, which seems absolutely absurd.
“With United this year and Chelsea last year, everyone was raving about Terry’s performances and now its about Smalling.” Michael Owen began. “I could play CB when I’ve got Bastian, Schneiderlin, 2 full-backs that don’t move and wide players that really do a good shift.”
Whenever Smalling has been tested this season he has come up on the right side more often than not. He has been amazing and without doubt the best centre-back in the Premier League to this point. His development over the last twelve months has been a joy to watch and hopefully this continues.
