The transfer window is now officially open, meaning clubs up and down the country are free to conduct their mid-season business if they so choose. As you’d imagine, Manchester United have always been linked with every man and their dog, but it felt like one rumour, in particular, was rather strong.
The name in question was SL Benfica’s centre-back Victor Lindelof, but now Sky Sports News say that Manchester United’s interest in the 22-year-old has cooled.
Sky Sources say that Jose Mourinho has reconsidered a move for the Sweden international thanks to the form of the team as a whole – but more importantly how well Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been playing recently, and the fact that Eric Bailly is now back from injury and playing again.
This comes less than two weeks after Sky said that Manchester United had held initial talks with Benfica about a possible transfer – but obviously now things have changed.
I’m a huge fan of Jose Mourinho’s, and you just have to admire a man that has turned Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo into absolute world beaters in such a short space of time. What’s even better is the fact the manager is now putting his faith firmly in the players who have been so solid recently – and that’s a massive confidence booster for those guys in particular.
