Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s Manchester United hell may be over soon, with The Independent reporting that Borussia Dortmund are willing to take the 28-year-old back.
The Armenia star has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho following a poor run in form. The game that sticks in my mind is away at Chelsea where he was absolutely non-existent as the Red Devils lost comfortably.
It’s a real shame. Mkhitaryan was dynamite at the start of the year, providing assists for fun. However, his confidence looks completely shot right now, and he hasn’t featured in United’s last five games.
We’ve seen this situation before with Angel di Maria. He came in with such high promise, and although we saw glimpses of his talents, he just couldn’t adapt to the physicality of Premier League football.
I’ve seen enough from Mkhitaryan to think that he’s going to struggle to adapt altogether and perhaps it is time to cut our losses and move on. Let’s be honest, his absence has been barely noticeable over the last couple of months, and if United can get good money for him, while sending him back to a place where he feels comfortable, then it certainly feels like the right thing to do.
