For all their faults over the last half-decade, one area Manchester United have excelled at is the goalkeeper position.
David de Gea was moulded into arguably the best in the business, while Sergio Romero is amongst the elite back-ups. Then you have Dean Henderson, with the 22-year-old looking superb while on loan at Sheffield United. So-much-so he’s now in the England setup.
Anyway today, another up-and-comer at Old Trafford has been handed a fresh deal. United today confirmed that 19-year-old starlet Matej Kovar has signed a new deal – though the longevity of the contract wasn’t revealed.
Kovar has been superb for United’s U23s since making the move to Manchester in January 2018, with the budding shot-stopper now heading for international duty with the Czech Republic’s U21s team over the next fortnight.
With considerable quality in front of him in the goalkeeper pecking order, Kovar will have to be at his absolute best if he’s to make an impact in the United first team.
Sure, the path is a long and windy one, but if you’ve seen Kovar in action, you know he’s a young man with the potential to go right to the very top.
Congratulations on the new contract, Matej! Richly deserved.
