Last summer, Manchester United Football Club made a bold move by bringing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. A veteran forward, who it felt like had played in every top league in the world other than the Premier League. Jose Mourinho made the move happen when he found out Ibrahimovic was out of contract at PSG.
We always knew it was going to be a short-term affair purely down to his age. Ibrahimovic penned a one-year deal with the option for a further year, and now that has been confirmed by Zlatan himself. The forward then claimed he wants to do great things here, before adding he is enjoying being at this fantastic club.
“Let’s see what happens, we are talking,” Ibrahimovic said to The Manchester Evening News.
“I have an option for another year, I want to do great as long as I’m here, so let us see, there is a lot of time.”
“I’m enjoying being at a fantastic club, without doubts, one of the biggest clubs in the world with a great coach. I know him before, he’s a winner, he’s the perfect coach for this club.”
“Being a Manchester United player, I don’t know how many people have that possibility but I am a Man United player, people wanted me here, I chose the club, I chose the best English club, that’s the way it works.”
Honestly, to me it sounds like the influential Swede hasn’t decided what he wants to do yet; and that’s fair enough. I would absolutely love for him to stay on as a Red Devil, because he’s been utterly brilliant for us.
So far Zlatan has found the back of the net twenty-six times which us truly outrageous for a man of his age, and some of those goals have been so important – just look at the fantastic brace he scored in the EFL Cup final against Southampton.
The 35-year-old has become our new leader both on and off the pitch, and he’s a guy that youngsters in the squad will look up to. We’ve been lucky to have him for twelve months, and it’d be equally brilliant if we can keep him for another season. So here’s hoping he puts pen to paper soon.
