Well, this is a headline I never thought I’d be writing. Harry Maguire has apparently been arrested after fighting outside a bar in Greece.
The story comes from Protothema (in Greek), translated by @UtdReport on Twitter. Apparently, the United star was arrested after fighting outside a bar while on holiday.
The incident took place in the ‘early hours’ of Friday morning, involving his friends and a group of other Englishmen in Mykonos, Greece.
All season, Maguire has set the perfect captain’s example, wearing the arm-band with pride and putting in some brilliant performances to-boot. He’s building an excellent rapport with the fans, too.
However, this doesn’t look good. Maguire is supposed to be the leader of this team and if this report is true, it puts Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in an unfortunate position.
Again, I must stress that Prototheme is a new media outlet to us and I’m not sure in regards to the credibility of this story. However, if it is accurate, the manager now has to give Maguire a serious talking to.
We’ll never 100% know what took place in Mykonos and I can say I’m 99% sure Maguire and his pals certainly wouldn’t have instigated it. I appreciate that in some situations it’s difficult not to react, but Maguire needs to step away from this situation and keep himself out of the limelight. It’s also very easy for me to say that while sat at a desk here, as opposed to being in the situation myself.
At this point, I’m hoping it’s just paper talk but it’d be a weird story to make up. Hopefully, Maguire isn’t hurt and they’ll be no repercussions from inside the club. You can bet your bottom dollar that some fans are calling for the armband to be taken off him, though I don’t see that happening at this stage.
I guess for now we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. In all honesty, I’d be surprised if we hear anything else about it over the next four weeks before the season starts – which is probably the best outcome for all involved.
