Manchester United Football Club have been heading into a different direction under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Slowly but surely, the Baby Faced Assassin is moulding this squad into one that fits his image.
With Ashley Young heading to Inter Milan, it was time for the Norweigan to name a new Red Devils captain. The choice? Harry Maguire.
The Red Devils’ £80million man has worn the armband on several occasions this term, and Solskjaer’s reasoning behind why was short, simple, but 100% true.
“Everything about him tells me is a leader. Harry will keep wearing the armband now.” Solskjaer told reporters, including the BBC’s Simon Stone.
Maguire is undoubtedly a leader. I’m always a fan of having a centre-half as the captain as he’s in the perfect position to instruct (and shout at!) others if needs be.
The former Leicester City man is a warrior, he’s tough, he has the right mentality and he’s more than deserving of this prestigious honour. Now let’s hope Maguire can kick it up another notch and lead by example.
At least now we have a permanent owner of the armband, too, as opposed to giving it to a player who doesn’t play week-in-week-out. The onus is solely Maguire’s and you know what, he deserves it.
Congratulations, Slabhead! Now go out there and score a captain’s goal this weekend – preferably a late-winner at the Kop End cheers!
