Manchester United fans were filled with excitement when Alexis Sanchez was signed in January.
The Red Devils finally found a #7 worthy of wearing the famous jersey, or so they thought…
After a relatively promising start to life at Old Trafford, things went rapidly downhill for the man from Chile.
He looked slow, lethargic, and quite frankly disinterested. His start to the 2018/19 campaign ensured I lost all faith in the now 29-year-old. All the above traits aren’t usually associated with Sanchez. He’s always been a hard-working, high-intensity footballer. I guess moving to work with Jose Mourinho saps that out of you.
Anyway, Sanchez has been offered a reprieve. United found themselves in a 2-0 hole before bringing it back to 2-2. We had entered the 90th minute, it looked as though we were taking away just one point. Up steps Sanchez with a bullet header to give us our first victory in five outings. What a finish. What a moment.

We’re now headed into the international break with morale back on our side. Sanchez’s slump could well have ended. Was this the break he needs? Well, at least he’s back moving in the right direction.
I know play didn’t continue for long after the goal, but the intensity, the drive, the desire returned straight after. Perhaps this was the all-important confidence-booster after a slow start to the season. Let’s hope so.
We all know what he can do. We’ve all seen how excellent he has been for Arsenal over the last few years. Goals, assists, energy, tenacity. If he can even bring an inch of what he showed at The Emirates to United, then we’ve still got a real player on our hands.
I guess the main dilemma now for Jose Mourinho is trying to fit all his superstars into the starting line-up, as Anthony Martial also stepped up his game massively against Newcastle. I guess it’s a nice problem to have…
