Herrera: This Man United man will become a legend here

Manchester United got another piece of silverware under their belt at the weekend, when Jose Mourinho’s side beat Southampton 3-2. The game itself was an entertaining one, but thankfully we came out on top and were celebrating our 42nd major trophy.

After the victory, midfielder Ander Herrera was speaking to the Spanish media about a variety of topics, and one thing that popped up was David de Gea and his long-term future as a Red Devil.

As we all know, there have been plenty of Real Madrid links to our #1 over the last couple of years, but his pal Herrera wants him to stay and adds that De Gea could become a club legend.

‘He has a good contract here and he is valued a lot by the fans,’ Herrera told Cadena Ser, translated by The Metro.

‘He is a calm person. He is not anxious or in a hurry to make a change.’

‘I want him to stay for many years and not just because he is my friend, but because there are not many goalkeepers that earn you points like he does,’

‘If he continues here, he will become a club legend as Schmeichel and Van der Sar. I believe he can surpass them. I think he has that in his mind.’

Stuff like this is always great to here. Ander Herrera is obviously a good mate of David de Gea’s, and no doubt they’ll speak a lot about stuff like this that happens behind the scenes.

Our midfield maestro will obviously want to try and persuade big Dave to remain a Red Devil for the long-term, because at the end of the day he’s one of the best goalkeepers on the planet.

To be likened to both Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van der Sar basically tells you everything you need to know about the calibre of player De Gea is, and we’re really lucky to have him on our books.
